An accident waiting to happen
Across Australia there are ten's of thousands of grates and frames similar to that shown. As you view the pictures you become acutely aware these grates and frames pose a potential hazard to bicycle traffic on our congested road systems, an accident waiting to happen !
Duty of Care, Due Diligence!
Bike it—you'll like it. We are all being encouraged to exercise on a regular basis, with more local councils setting up regional bike routes to cater for the increasing demand of bike riding as a form of exercise. With this comes the added responsibility for local councils to ensure that local roads and cycle areas are fitted with bike safe grates and frames, demonstrating compliance with Australian Standard AS3996-1992.
The "Galvanised Bike Safe Grate" with its closely spaced grid will prevent the accidental penetration of a bicycle wheel. The grate is mechanically fastened to prevent unauthorised entry for items such as tennis and cricket balls, which often results in injury.
The "Pollution Source Control Bar" will not let the above items through, stopping the need for unauthorised entry.
The mechanical fastening of the grate also prevents the grate from being placed the wrong way up and causing the potential for a motorcycle accident to happen.
